Why is online writing my favorite home based work opportunity? Well, writing is the greatest form of self expression and now that you can write online, you have even more ways to get your writing out there for the rest of the world to see. The other day I heard a writer being interviewed on the radio. He was talking about why writing matters so very much, and he said something that just took my breath away.

He said, “What would you give to have just one honest, heartfelt paragraph written by your great grandparents about what their lives were like?” He added that old photographs are great for capturing and freezing a moment in time. But writing, honest writing, is so much more valuable because it gives you a glimpse into the soul of a fellow human being. And what could be more precious than that?

Now, if you are hoping to make money online, not every piece you publish online can be poetry or your most elegant prose piece. You will be writing, in some cases, for commercial purposes. BUT….and this, as they say, is a big but…this does not mean that every article you write online needs to have a commercial or sales focus. For instance, if you decide to write multiple blogs, you can have blogs that you set up exclusively for professional purposes and others that are more personal in nature. A lot of people like to write both kinds of blogs. The professional or commercial ones help them earn a living, whereas the personal ones provide them with a venue in which to express their deepest thoughts and feelings.

And in some instances, you can actually accomplish both goals (personal and professional) with one blog. For example, you can write a weight loss journey blog or a post surgical blog in which you chronicle your own journey (in deeply personal terms) but of course you can also monetize such a blog by including advertising on the blog that is related to the central topic at the heart of your personal journey (i.e., weight loss advertising or medical/surgical advertising).

Perhaps the best part of writing this kind of blog that combines the personal with the professional is that you feel passionately about the topic, so you know you will have no problem updating it on a regular basis. (As I have mentioned in previous blog posts, when you blog about topics that interest you, it is a lot more fun. Not to say you can’t blog about other topics, but you won’t feel as enthusiastic about updating blogs about topics that are of less inherent interest to you.)
