Quality Content: In The Eyes of The Beholder

Content and volume (i.e., generating a lot of content) are both the “name of the game” when it comes to writing online. What does the phrase “quality content” mean exactly? Well, you can probably guess, but I’ll spell it out here. Content is the broad, all encompassing word Internet marketers and online writers use to describe the actual content of their websites: the actual words that comprise your online articles and blog posts.
Everyone speaks of the need to for online writers to generate loads and loads of “quality content” in order to succeed when writing online. This is all well and good but alas, this notion of “quality content” is a pretty subjective one, meaning that what you see as quality content might not “measure up” in the eyes of someone else and vice versa.
As a general rule of thumb, quality content matches the title of the piece. For instance, if you write a piece of content entitled “SEO Basics,” then the article should cover all of the basics of Search Engine Optimization. If a piece of content does not expand upon its own title, it is generally not considered a piece of quality content. In addition, it should not be duplicate content. That is, do not plagiarize from your other online articles (or from anyone else’s) and then publish (or market) the piece by billing it as a piece of fresh, original content when in fact it is not. Third, proofread your work, not only for syntax or grammatical or spelling issues, but also to make sure that it accurately reflects your opinions and is a well crafted and thoroughly thought out piece of content. If it is a piece you need to research, then don’t skimp on the research portion of the project because if your final product is factually incorrect someone will likely call you out on it at some point.
Above all, remember that you cannot please everyone all of the time. You might work your heart out on a particular article or blog post only to be told by someone that it is all wrong or poorly written or some other equally insulting accusation. Don’t let it get to you too much. Keep writing and proofreading your work. Keep investing your time and energy in your online writing projects and keep your priorities straight. You will be just fine, and you will produce plenty of quality content in the process.
