You may have noticed that while I include advertising on this blog, the only specific service that I “plug” myself as the owner of several niche blogs is the Hostgator hosting service. This is for several reasons. I’ve mentioned in earlier blog posts that it is certainly fine to use blogging platforms on which you do not own the domains, especially if you are just blogging for fun rather than blogging for profit.

However, if you want to treat your blogs like a business or home based work opportunity, that is, if you are hoping to earn money from your blogs by monetizing them (i.e., including ads, such as Google Adsense ads), then you might want to consider the advantages of owning your own blogs, which involved purchasing domains from a company (like Prouddomains.com or any of the other countless companies) and then purchasing a hosting service.

What I like about Hostgator as a blog owner is how responsive they are to their customers. The other day, I was confused about something technical (which is typical for me; I’m not exactly ultra tech savvy). So I contacted them by email. (I have also called them, and they were exceedingly patient and kind, answering all of my questions very clearly.)

But back to this email that I sent them: I expected to wait the better part of a day or even two days to hear back from them. (You know how so many companies are: You send in your customer “ticket” and then you wait….and you wait….and then you wait some more.)

Not in this case! I heard back from the Hostgator customer service department within ten minutes. The response was so quick I almost fell off my chair. But here’s the best part: it was a very high quality, personalized response, not some cookie cutter form letter. The person who replied not only answered my original question (in very clear, layman’s non-techy language), but then he also anticipated another follow up question that (he must have known) I was bound to have, and he answered that question as well! It was pretty wild….almost like he read my mind. That’s the kind of customer service that comes with great training (and lots of experience, too, I imagine).
